Hailed as Europe's biggest and most spectacular medieval event, Tewkesbury Medieval Festival is an annual fayre celebrating the May 4th 1471 Battle of Tewkesbury. This, the final battle of the War of the Roses sees the Prince and King of the Houses of York (or the White Rose) and House of Lancaster (or the Red Rose), fight over the English Crown. The Battle Re-enactment takes place on some of the original battlefield, and features approximately 2000 knights, archers, men at arms and cannons. It is entirely enactled by volunteer historic enthusiasts who come dressed in their finest medieval costumes, to recreate tMedieval life and times for two days, for the amusement of themselves and thousands of spectators. A colourful and authentic living history camp with families living in complete medieval style, a fascinating market selling everything from medieval pots and pigskins to jewellery and dresses, pikestaffs and swords, and some of the best wrought ironwork cookware you will ever see. There may also be other surprises, such as a Jousting Fayre, Bedlam Morris Dancers, or Falconry, Giant Medival Ladies on Stilts, or even the great Sir John Dunne Himself to bump into....
