Lt. Colonel Eric Wilson - a Victoria Cross recipient - arrives at Westminster Abbey, London, for a ceremony attended by Queen Elizabeth II. * The Queen unveiled the first major memorial to people awarded Britain's highest honours for courage and bravery, the Victoria and George Cross. The Victoria and George Cross Memorial Ledger, bearing the inscription "Remember Their Valour and Gallantry", was being installed close to the Tomb Of The Unknown Warrior at the Abbey's Great West Door, in the presence of 34 of the 44 living holders - 11 VCs and 23 GCs. Lt. Colonel Eric Wilson was awarded the VC after manning a machine gun post in Ethiopia after five days under heavy Italian artillery fire, during the Second World War.
