Saint Lucia Parrot (Amazona versicolor) adult individual bred at Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust (Jersey Zoo) and returned to Mini Zoo Forestry Department, St. Lucia, Windward Islands, Lesser Antilles (captive). Amazona versicolor is also known as the St Lucia Amazon, and Jacquot. It is endemic to Saint Lucia and is the country's national bird. The species had declined from around 1000 birds in the 1950s to 100 birds in the late 1970s. Classified as Vulnerable (VU D1+2) on the IUCN Red List 2003 and listed on Appendices I and II of CITES. This parrot is also protected in St Lucia by domestic legislation. In 1982 the first ever successful captive breeding of the Saint Lucia Parrot occurred at Jersey in the UK, and in 1989 two young individuals were returned to Saint Lucia and can be seen at Union Mini Zoo operated and maintained by St Lucia’s Ministry of Agriculture Forestry Department.
