After the success of last year, Spookport is back again to delight children with the frightening festivities of a spooky parade and an eerie Lord Street filled with costumed Hallowe’en enthusiasts. It is hoped that the adventurous plans to get the whole town into the spooky season will boost business and provide events that make people want to join in the frightening fun. Andrew Sloman, Manager of Southport BID, said: “The whole point of Spookport is to turn our town into a great attraction; to make it a wondrous place both in terms of exciting activities and shopping, too. “We are encouraging all businesses to get involved, dress their windows, have special ‘Halloween’ offers and so on. “We’re including venues across the town including the Atkinson and Wayfarers’ Arcade and we’re hoping to make this year even spookier than last year.” The hair-raising week will include fancy dress competitions, kids trick and treat trails, medium nights, ghost walks, pumpkin carving competitions, sing a long a spooky musical and children’s comedy workshops, a naughty burlesque evening and even a Halloween flower show. There will also be a ‘Spook Up Your Biz’ competition. Owners of bars, hotels, clubs, shops and restaurants are urged to decorate their businesses. Organisers suggest thinking outside the box and going big, as the winner (who will be voted for via Facebook) will receive £500. BID chair Enda Rylands, BID manager Andrew Sloman and other members of the BID team are busy working on ways to bring in more customers to local shops, restaurants, hotels and bars during the winter and into 2016. Mr Norman Wallis, manager of Southport Pleasureland is to stage a 7 day event on the theme of Happy Halloween, when rides, exhibits, and staff will join in the fun to make it a half term week to remember.
