Spotted Wolf Canyon San Rafael Utah traffic landscape.The San Rafael Swell is a large geologic feature located in south-central Utah about 30 miles west of Green River, Utah. The I-70 interstate highway cuts through the middle of this desert region. Flash floods have eroded the sedimentary rocks into numerous valleys, canyons, gorges, mesas and buttes. The area is managed by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. The San Rafael Swell attracts hikers, backpackers, horseback riders, and all-terrain vehicle (ATV) enthusiasts. this 108 mi (174 km) section was opened to traffic in 1970, it became the longest stretch of interstate highway with no services.
