By the end of the final show at the Apollo Victoria in central London, the blockbusting musical will have been performed 7, 406 times. With its colourful costumes, elaborate make-up and roller skates, it has attracted more than eight million people and taken in excess of 140 million at the London box office. Nine thousand lights have created the star effect on a set which has enthralled audiences since the first performance on March 27 1984.
