Altre informazioni:
Traditional stilt huts (called "Peladas" by the locals) in Tourlida, a traditional settlement, at the lagoon of Messolonghi, Aitoloakarnania, Greece. The Lagoon of Messolonghi-Aitoliko is an important wetland protected by the Ramsar convention and Natura 2000. It is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places I have seen in my country. Lots of fish there, in traditional fish farms (called "ivari" by the locals) but also some fine fisherman's stilt huts, called "Peladas". You can also see some typical traditional flat bottomed boats (with no carina) of the lakes and lagoons (shallow waters, in general) called "gaitas" by the locals. Besides that, Messolonghi is the only town of Greece, declared "Hiera Polis" ("Sacred town") because of the heroic fight of its inhabitants during the years of the Greek struggle for Independence against the Ottoman Empire
