Kastoria town, in Macedonia, Northern Greece, besides its beauty, is well know as one of the most important, fur production and trading center in the world. It is, also, an "open air" Byzantine museum, with 75 byzantine and post-Byzantine churches and more than 3. 700 square meters of byzantine frescoes covering a period of about 7 centuries. You can see the interior of some of those churches, but to do so, first you have to go to the Byzantine Museum, located at the top of the old Byzantine Acropolis (where you can also see a very rare collection of portable icons, and the process of restoration) and ask for the escort of one of guards of the museum.
