andlt;strongandgt;Supernova remnant N132Dandlt;/strongandgt;, combined X-ray andoptical image. The shockwave from the supernova iscausing the surrounding gas and dust (pink) toglow. The supernova occurred around 163, 000 yearsago, and was first visible from Earth 3000 yearsago. This supernova remnant is 160, 000 light yearsfrom Earth, in the Large Magellanic Cloud in theconstellation Dorado. The optical data wasobtained with Hubbleandamp;apos;s ACS instrument, while theX-ray data is from the Chandra X-ray Observatoryandamp;apos;sACIS instrument. The results were published inOctober 2005.
