A train travels along a section of the West Coast Mainline between Stoke and Maclesfield. Union leaders have today called for all rail maintenance to be re-nationalised in the wake of an admission by engineering contractor Jarvis that it laid a section of train track wrongly. Shares in Jarvis slumped by more than 12% today, wiping almost 50 million from the value of the company following the revelation that Network Rail was investigating claims that the firm entered falsified documents over the track work between Macclesfield and Stoke-on-Trent. *12/11/03: Train operators were challenged to prove that national rail enquiries have improved under controversial plans to switch part of the service abroad. And rail infrastructure company Network Rail (NR) has admitted that its existing system could soon experience interference from others using the same frequency, according to the Computing newspaper.
