Philip and Heather Retberg exemplify the face of young farmers succeeding in making a living while providing healthy, organic foods for their local community. Quills Ends is one of the farms that has been protected by a conservation easement by The Maine Farmland Trust. The Retbergs provide a variety of organic, rotationally grazed meats and cheeses for farmers markets and local restaurants. The Maine Farmland Trust is helping multi-generation farms to continue to thrive as well as helping young farmers to get into the business of farming. This process of preserving valuable farmland from being developed is not only keeping the agricultural culture of Maine alive, it is also providing healthy, often organic, locally grown foods for Maine people.
