A mural in Haight-Ashbury. Haight-Ashbury is a district of San Francisco, California, named for the intersection of Haight and Ashbury streets. The Haight-Ashbury district is noted for its role as a centre of the 1960s hippie movement, and "Summer of Love" in 1967. The 1960s era and modern American counterculture have been synonymous with San Francisco and the Haight-Ashbury neighbourhood ever since. Some famous musicians had homes and recording facilities there. This mural remembers some of the growing number of musicians who died age 27. Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and Kurt Cobain all died at the age of 27. They were all pioneers in the rock world. Other famous musicians who died age 27 include Brian Jones and Amy Winehouse.
