Kochi (formerly Cochin), Kerala, southern India
Altre informazioni:
Kochi is a large conurbation on the Malabar coast of southern India, arranged around a series of ocean-going waterways, elongated islands and peninsulas. It was known formerly as Cochin, a relic of its Portuguese Colonial era. The Dutch and British also played leading roles in turn, at this important seaport, now a large city including modern centres of Ernakulum and Willingdon Island, and mainly preserved colonial centres, notably Fort Cochin and Mattancherry. This is where most of the tourists head for. There are also rural districts on peninsulas backed by lagoons (the famous Kerala backwaters) notably Vypeen Island, where Cherai Beach is located. The many and varied locations of Kochi are linked with a rusting fleet of ferry boats of various shapes and sizes. EDITORIAL USE ONLY
