According to newarkparade.com: "Founded in 1936, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee, Inc. is composed of delegates from nearly 100 Irish, Fraternal, Catholic, and Public Safety Organizations as well as other Civic, Social, and Athletic Organizations." According to njbiz.com: "... a brief recap of the day, which started with remarks by Mayor Cory Booker at St. Patrick's Pro-Cathedral followed by a memorial mass celebrated by Most Rev. John W. Flesey. The rite of investiture, also held at the church, is an official recognition of the parade's key players: Grand Marshall Patrick Dunican and his chief of staff Noreen Giblin, and Deputy Grand Marshall DSFC Eileen Gilleece and her chief of staff Kerri O'Rourke Arrington. At the grandstand ceremony on Mulberry Street, Dunican, chairman and managing director at Gibbons, spoke about feeling honored to be grand marshal as an Irishman at a law firm founded by an Irishman. Gilleece, with the State Police, commented that St. Patrick's Day ranks close to Christmas in her home. Parade participants included business executives and leaders from Newark nonprofits, plus school bands and civic groups. Dunican’s alma mater, Iona College in New Rochelle, N.Y., was also represented yesterday with Iona President Joseph Nyre participating and the college’s band marching. Organizers said the 78th Newark parade raised more than $100, 000 for area charities. The parade is managed by a committee of volunteers led by General Chairman Michael Byrne, a political consultant."
