The Oldest Continuing Cycle Race in the World started in 1886 by the Catford Cycling Club. James Lowden no 148 from the Lewes Wanders Cycling Club wins the 118th Annual Catford CC Hill climb at York Hill, IdeHill, Kent on October 12 2014 at midday. This years winning time was 1 minute and 55.6 seconds, this still fails to beat the 1 minute 47.6 seconds record set by Phil Mason (San Fairy Ann CC) in 1983 set 31 years ago. Last years defending winner Robert Gough from Arctic Tacx CC, No 150, managed a good effort and came in 2nd in 1 minute 59.6 seconds. Maryka Sennema from Kingston Wheelers CC, was the first lady in with a winning time of 2 minutes and 42.9 seconds. The race is a 707 yard climb with an average gradient of 12.5%, with two stretches of 25% which requires an all-out lung bursting effort to get up the climb.
