On a morning walk at Turtle Bay in Redding California, USA I spotted this great egret atop a small rock island. It almost looked as if the big white bird was guarding the myriad ducks that were swimming about. The area known at Turtle Bay just downstream of the famous Sundial Bridge is a beautiful stretch of river with a very diverse wildlife population, including a nesting pair of bald eagles known as Liberty and Guardian. Liberty has nested there consistently for over a decade now and Guardian is her third mate. There are several well maintained paved trails through the park that are well used by local folks to walk, jog, and bike through a bit of nature’s beauty in the middle of their town.
