Altre informazioni:
The most recent volvanic eruption on the island of Tenerife, Canary Islands, occurred in 1909, producing Chinyero Volcano, a monogenetic strombolian type basaltic cone in the north west of the island. The lava flow from the eruption moved downhill several kilometres and stopped some hundreds of metres above the village of Las Manchas, which was extremely fortunate for the residents, as it would have otherwise destroyed the village. Volcanic eruptions on the island of Tenerife tend to occur with a frequency of between 100-200 years. These eruptions are mostly monogenetic events from strombolian type cones situated in the mountainous areas in the north-west and north-east of the island. These eruptions tend to produce basaltic aa lavas which can travel several km downslope and localised scoriaceous pyroclastics close to the cones. Pahoeohoe lavas do occur but appear to be much less common than aa types.
