Pictured: Tony Nilsson 30 from Norway takes part in the second day of the Elvis competition heats. / Over 80 of Europe's top Elvis tribute acts together with hundreds of fans gather at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole hotel to take part in the European Elvis championships which is held each year around the King's birthday celebrations. The competition is billed as Europe's largest annual Elvis tribute artist contest convention and attracts over 80 Elvis professional lookalikes from all over Europe and the commonwealth. Contestants are marked on their vocals, 40 per cent of the marks; appearance that most represents Elvis, 20 per cent; presence and recreating the Elvis charisma, 20 per cent; and their overall performance, 20 per cent. The panel will test them through the heats spread over three days (6th - 8th January), with 20 of the highest scorers from the combined four heats qualifying for the final. The winner will receive prize money of £3, 000, a live showcase at a 2016 convention, and will hold the title of European Elvis champion. Categories include Novice, under 14's and an Elvis gospel contest and each day of the convention includes live bands, Elvis showcases, Elvis disco and Elvis video shows.
