One hopes to be so lucky to discover a hidden treasure, perhaps a Picasso canvas hung in a barn in the French countryside or, as I did, a Frank Lloyd Wright gem in the middle of the Pacific on the island of Maui. This gem is called the King Kamehameha Golf Club — below is more of the story. Zooming to the extreme longest focal length on my lens, we get a good view of the Puunene Sugar Mill — the last operating sugar mill in Hawai`i when it was still operating. Sadly, it closed in 2016. Much of the valley was planted in sugar cane which was partially refined here on Maui then shipped to California for final processing, packaging and distribution. Most of the land on which sugar cane was grown is being repurposed or is lying fallow.
