The Sacred Olive Tree of Athena, Enclosed in the Sanctuary of Pandrosos, Part of The Erechtheion, Erechtheum or Temple of Athena Polias, Acropolis, Athens, Greece, Europe. The Erechtheion, Erechtheum or Temple of Athena Polias is an ancient Greek Ionic temple on the north side of the Acropolis, Athens, which was primarily dedicated to the goddess Athena. Externally, the temple is an Ionic hexastyle, prostyle pronaos which faces east. The building is in Pentelic marble with a blue Eleusinian limestone frieze. Pandrosos was the kind and obedient daughter of Kekrops, king of Athena and the first priestes of Athena Polis, the patron godess of the city. The olive tree that exists in the sanctuary today was planted in the beginning of the 20th century in memory of Athena's sacred tree.
