The "hórreo of Carnota" is a type of hórreo that is located in the municipality of Carnota, in the province of A Coruña, Galicia. It is one of the largest and most famous hórreos of Galicia, and was declared a National Monument in 1973. It is 34 meters long, 1.90 meters wide and has 22 pairs of feet. It was built in the 18th century, between 1768 and 1783, by the architect Gregorio Quintela. It is part of an architectural and historical complex that includes a manor house, a dovecote and the church of Santa Comba or Columba of Carnota1. The hórreos are typical constructions of the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula, which are used to store and preserve food, especially grains, away from moisture and animals. They are characterized by being raised on pillars and having slots in the walls to ventilate the interior. The hórreos have a great ethnographic and cultural value, and some of them are protected as cultural assets.
