The image is of the Black Poppy Tower at the German Military Cemetery of Langemark near the Belgium Town of Langemark. The cemetery was the site of a major German command post during the First Battle of Ypres in November 1914. It is the largest German cemetery in Belgium of the First World War. The cemetery contains the remains of approx 45, 000 German soldiers some from the early First Battle of Ypres in 1914 when inexperienced German troops went into battle against experienced British and French soldiers sustaining huge losses, that the Battle became known as the Slaughter of the Innocents since many were young conscripts. At the entrance there are a number of bronze wall panels of German soldiers who are buried in mass graves, elsewhere grave plots contain multiple soldiers, all are overlooked by bronze statues that represent grieving soldiers.
