The carnival of Ivrea takes place in February each year and includes historical ceremonies and parades as well as the spectacular orange battles. These battles take place in the town’s squares and involve thousands of participants, with teams on foot throwing oranges at those on horse-drawn carts and vice versa. The orange battles symbolise the uprising of the population against the tyrannical lords of the town. Here, a battle in the Borghetto area of town during the 2005 carnival. The orange throwers in green and red costumes belong to the Tucchini team.
