NY 53 NW, 5/111 LAZONBY, LAZONBY, Church of St Nicholas II Parish Church. 1863 for Eleanor Maclean by Anthony Salvin on medieval site. Coursed red and calciferous Lazonby sandstone with flush quoins, on chamfered plinth. Graduated greenslate roof with coped gables and cross finials. 3-bay nave with north aisle, south porch and west square 3-storey tower; 2-bay chancel with north vestry. Tower has west 3-light plate-tracery window, upper-floor lancets and south clock face; large 2-light bell opening flanked by cusped side panels, all with pointed heads under hoodmoulds. Battlemented parapet and north projecting angle stair turret. Porch has studded plank door in pointed arch. Nave has flat-headed 2-light windows with cusped heads and right similar single window with rounded head. Aisle has 2-light cusped-head windows. Vestry has steps up to priests doorway with shouldered arch; cusped-headed windows and 3-light east window with plate-tracery. Interior has 3-bay arcade of pointed arches on round columns. Open timber roof. Carved tracery screens in tower arch, baptistry and chancel. Doors carved with panels of scrolled leaves. Carved oak pulpit on octagonal stone base. Carved oak eagle lectern.
