People share a giant cake to celebrate the 2, 588th birthday of the founder of Taoism Lao Zi (Laozi) on Laojun Mountain in Luoyang city, central China's Henan province, 12 March 2017. A gigantic cake was made to honour the founder of Taoism Lao Zi's on the occasion of his 2, 588th birthday on Saturday (11 March 2017) in Laojun Mountain of Luoyang, central China's Henan Province. The cake, being made beneath the bronze statue of Lao Zi at Laojun Mountain, weighs over 5, 000 kilograms and is made of about 30, 000 eggs, 450 kilograms sugar and 300 kilograms milk. Because of its size, a baker is lowered by crane to paste the icing on top of the cake with the help of an excavator. It's believed that Laojun Mountain is where Lao Zi (real name Li Er) retired and lived in seclusion. A great number of Taoism followers come here every year to commemorate Lao Zi's birthday. The giant cake was distributed to people after Lao Zi's birthday ceremony on March 12 (Feb 15 in lunar calendar).
