I met this young boy as I was trekking through Shan State, Myanmar back in December 2013. I had stayed the night in a Buddhist Montessori and I woke up early the next morning, right when the sun had come up. This little boy appeared out of no where and we began to play and I gestured to see if he was alright with me taking his picture. Not only was he willing but he loved it and was laughing the whole time as he would run up to look at our shots on my cameras display. I remember how he put his arm around me with such warmth and even though we couldn't communicate in words, we understood one another well enough. I had a bright colored bracelet with me that had been given to me by children I know in the states and as a gesture of gratitude I gave it to the little boy as a gift. His eyes got wide and he ran to show the old woman that was his caretaker. I think of him ever so ofter and wonder how life has been treating him. It was one of my favorite memories from that 5 day trek.
