Malieveld, The Hague, The Netherlands. Wednesday 30th October, 2019. This week saw the turn of Dutch construction workers to demonstrate on the Malieveld after the farmers mass demonstration of last week. Today’s event was organized by ‘Grond in Verzet’ the (Ground Resistance) action group and the same principal issue: tackling Nitrogen regulations. Since the 1st October 2019, all soil mined and relocated must be checked for (PFAS) Poly and Perfluoroalkyl substances, a collection of around 6, 000 man-made chemicals that are widely dispersed by the construction industry in soil and groundwater - State Secretary Stientje van Veldhoven (Infrastructure and Water Management, D66) recently called PFAS ' a real mess'. The minister’s present were jeered and heckled as they were interviewed on the stage. Events were to turn a little nasty, when a few remaining construction workers remained; confronting the police they were met with a baton charge from mounted and unmounted police and some arrests were made.
