Makena is a rugged, adventurous, playground which is unspoiled, undeveloped and under-visited by tourists. Big Beach AKA Oneloa Beach is a popular spot fun sunbathing and bodyboarding by locals and tourists alike. Little Beach AKA Pu'u Ola‘i Beach is a small crescent of white sand surrounded on the mauka (mountain) side providing a measure of privacy for folks who are into nude sunbathing (technically illegal but tolerated by the police in this one location). One‘uli Beach ASA Naupaka Beach is a black sand at the northern end of the park in the direction of Makena. Turning around and looking in the other direction down the beach, you can see its size and a bit of the ferocity of the waves.
