Scotland is one of four constituent nations forming the United Kingdom; the other three are England, Wales and Northern Ireland. It is situated in the northern part of the island of Great Britain and shares a southern land border with England; its capital city is Edinburgh. Scotland is 274 miles from north to south and varies in width between 24 and 154 miles.
