Altre informazioni:
Imbersago (249 m, 817 ft) is a town in the province of Lecco, Brianza, Lombardy, Italy. It's located near Merate in the hilly territory typical of the Lombard pre-Alps, immersed in the Adda Nord Park. The town is bordered by the river Adda which separates the provinces of Lecco and Bergamo. The town is well known for the presence of the sanctuary of Madonna del Bosco, pilgrimage destination, and for Leonardo's ferry on the Adda river. In the nearby little city of Merate there is an astronomical observatory and technology research centre. Piazza Garibaldi is the main square of Imbersago. Around the year 2000 the square was completely restored and the porphyry floor and the fountain were put in place. The ancient tower, now residential, was also restored. In 2004 the centre of the square was embellished with a mosaic created by the students of Pont-Évêque, a French town twinned with Imbersago. Leonardo's ferry on the river Adda connects the Imbersago (LC) bank with the opposite bank of Villa d'Adda (BG). Since 1513 it has been rebuilt and renovated several times but remains faithful to the original idea. This type of small river ferries has no motor and requires neither oars nor draught animals: it uses the river's water current and the constraint of a rope stretched between the two banks to move; this is in accordance with the patrallelogram vector law They were already in use before Leonardo da Vinci, but he made some important changes to their design and made them more functional.
