Warley Place Nature Reserve, Essex Britain - A Heritage Garden developed in naturalistic style by Ellen Wilmott (1858 – 1934) was a pioneering horticulturalist and woman ahead of her time. A keen botanist and author, with a Walled Garden dating back to 1700 she designed and developed her garden with imagination and style. An English horticulturist and one of the first recipients of the RHS Victoria Medal of Honour awarded to her in in 1897. Ellen Willmott's lifelong passion for all things botanical was evident from her lifetime of dedication to gardening and the collection of plants she amassed at Warley. Planted here are a wide variety of exotic plant species from as far afield as Middle East and China including a Chusan Palm within the walled gardens and wonderful Ginkgo Biloba tree. Warley Place is a timeless gardening legacy for visitors to discover with conservation efforts continuing into 2022 and on. Since 1977, the Essex Wildlife Trust have managed this delightfully charming garden.
