In celebration of the 10th anniversary of Shakespeare Week, students from St Gregory's Catholic Primary School perform their production of Romeo and Juliet outside of the iconic Shakespeare Birthplace on Henley Street. This is the local celebration as part of a wider, national flashmob campaign taking place across England. Stratford-upon-Avon is playing host to a special performance inspired by one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays on Monday 18 March, as Shakespeare’s Birthplace becomes the stunning backdrop for the start of a nationwide commemoration of Shakespeare Week – the annual, national celebration of Shakespeare in primary schools, which is marking its 10th anniversary this week. Children from St Gregory's Catholic Primary School will be showcasing their Shakespearian learning and participate in a nationwide flashmob, joining students from across the UK, with an exciting performance inspired by Romeo and Juliet on Henley Street, outside of Shakespeare’s Birthplace. Led by Ascension Dance Company, audiences can expect the story of Romeo and Juliet, be told through the art of street dance. "It is exciting to be collaborating with so many cultural organisations and schools across the UK to launch Shakespeare Week celebrations. It’s thrilling to see our partners and schools come together and be part of the flash mobs. ‘’This year is important as we mark 10 years of Shakespeare Week. Over the past 10 years, we have reached hundreds of thousands of children and teachers, helping to make children’s first experience with Shakespeare a positive one, and we look forward to continuing to impact the lives of new generations through the power of Shakespeare."
