A tow truck arrives at the square in front of Pangdonglai Times Square where the Peugeot 408 without a car plate crashed into a crowd of people in Xuchang city, central Chinas Henan province, 11 August 2013. A private car crashed into a crowd of people queuing outside a shopping mall on Sunday (11 August 2013) in the central Chinese city of Xuchang, killing one person and injuring 11 others. A Chinese couple drove their newly-bought Peugeot 408 without a car plate to Pangdonglai Times Square at around 9:20 Sunday morning in Xuchang, Henan province. The husband, who just got his driving licence, tried several times to park his car but failed. His wife, who was still learning driving and did not have a driving licence, seemed to get impatient and persuaded him to let her have a try. But the woman mistook the fuel pedal for the brake pedal and drove the car to crash into a crowd of people standing in front of the door of a shopping mall, waiting for it to open. A 7-year-old boy was crushed underneath the car. Bystanders rushed to the site and lifted up the car to rescue the boy. Unfortunately the young boy was declared dead soon after being sent to hospital for medical treatment. 11 others, most of whom were children, were injured in the accident. The woman was later arrested by police.
