China Mobile Ltd. is expanding beyond its traditional voice and text services, betting on a new mobile application to tap into growing communications traffic between China and the rest of the world. This week, its unit China Mobile International Ltd. launched Jego, a Voice Over Internet Protocol application similar to Microsoft Corp.s Skype. Jego is a unique app that enables the renting and binding of China Mobile numbers in the world. For overseas Chinese who already have a China Mobile number, they can retain their number and bind it with Jego to enjoy free roaming incoming calls. Other overseas users who wish to have a local presence in China can now rent a China Mobile number to receive unlimited free calls and use Jego to make international calls at high quality and low costs anywhere in the world.
