A protester holding a placard saying "Give the birth by yourself" passes by the famous "papal window" in the curia building, from which Pope John Paul II gave many speeches to Poles. The Polish Constitutional Court in its new, politically chosen courthouse ruled that abortion is unconstitutional in cases where there is a high probability of serious and irreversible damage to the fetus or an incurable disease that threatens its life. In the case of Poland, this means limiting the number of abortions to around 100 per year, only in cases of rape. Pro-life activists have announced a fight to ban abortion in cases of rape as well. As a result of the court's decision large protests started in every major city in Poland. Opposition politicians suggest that the timing of the decision is not accidental and is intended to distract public attention from the Law and Justice's (PiS) party government's ineffective policy on the pandemic.
