Cw 7721 RCR refloating a boat at lock 92 Rochdale No 7 Nearly all the water has been pumped out of the boat and it sits in the lock as the equipment is starting to be tided up to return to the RCR vans. On Monday the 16th of August the CRT issued a stoppage notice for lock 92 on the Rochdale canal due to a sunken craft in the lock. The craft was a narrow boat. It is believed to have taken on water and sunk when the boats rudder was caught between the two bottom lock gates as they closed. The craft was refloated by a team from River Canal and Rescue on the morning of Thursday the 19th of August. The team closed off water ingress routes into the boat, doors, windows, hatches with plastic sheets and covers held in place with strong magnets. Three high capacity pumps, capable of pumping up to 10000 litres per hour, where used to pump out the water from the boat. The pumping out took about 30 minutes and the boat slowly refloated, with the last of the water being pumped out with a smaller pump. The boat was out of the lock by 13.45hrs and navigation was resumed for all craft.
