A large group photograph of the miners mounted on a visitorÕs display board, who used to work the mines near the Laxey WheelÕ located at Laxey, a few miles north of Douglas on the Isle of Man, Britain. The Laxey Wheel known fondly as lady Isablla', was constructed in 1854, and is the world's largest surviving waterwheel of its kind. The wheel was used to pump water from the nearby mines. The Isle of Man with its capital city, Douglas is located in the middle of the Irish Sea between northern England and northern Ireland. The island is independent of Britain and not a member of the European Union. It has the status of 'crown dependency', similar to Jersey and Guernsey in the Channel Islands But its inhabitants are British citizens. The Isle of Man is world famous for its annual TT motorcycle races and also it is the home of the rare cat, the Manx Cat as it has no tail.
