Cw 7296 Quad dragging boat through tree down site 19.8.2020 Over the night of Monday the 17th and Tuesday 18th a large oak tree fell across the Leeds and Liverpool canal in the Douglas Valley in West Lancashire. There had been heavy spells of rain in the last few days that may have affected the stability of the tree that fell between bridges 39 and 40 on the canal. The tree blocked the canal but not the towpath and meant about 12 boats had gathered along the canal before contractors for the Canal and River Trust came and started to remove the tree. By mid afternoon on Wednesday the 19th enough of the tree had been removed to enable the boats to just get through the gap alongside the towpath. The first few boats need some assistance from the contractor’s lads, boat crews and the contractor’s quad bike. 19.8.20.
