This photo was taken during Barcelona's main celebration- La Mercè. People are normally relaxed at these events and expect to be photographed as almost everyone has a camera of sorts. It was interesting going through my photographs this year. I notice a large number of miserable and suspicious faces. There's a tension you can feel. I suspect it has much to do with the Catalan drive for independence and the resulting divisions and tension in society. The divide between those in favour of an independent republic of Catalonia and those not, is growing daily and as an outsider living here in Barcelona for almost 20years, I feel it acutely.
