How films are made - No. 3 of a series of 25 - Battery of lamps. One of a series of cigarette cards illustrating movie making given away by B. Morris & Sons of London in the early 1930s. Cigarette card original size 6.7 x 3.7 cm. Version here suitable for reproduction up to 35.5 x19.2 cm at 300 pixels per inch. The cards were printed lithographically - not half-tone - which gives them a beautiful vintage texture. The description on the back of the card states: "BATTERY OF LAMPS. Lighting plays a very important part in the making of a film, and addition to the usual white lights, various frosted glass and coloured gelatine diffusers are used, to be switched on as required, to give varying effects and degrees of shadow, etc. Some of the lamps are overhead, others on the ground level, and all are numbered. The chief camera man on the film will then call for certain lamps by number from time to time to get the lighting effect he requires." "Facilities for the preparation of this series granted by Gaumont-British Picture Corporation Ltd."
