How films are made - No. 5 of a series of 25 - Plasterers department. One of a series of cigarette cards illustrating movie making given away by B. Morris & Sons of London in the early 1930s. Cigarette card original size 6.7 x 3.7 cm. Version here suitable for reproduction up to 35.5 x19.2 cm at 300 pixels per inch. The cards were printed lithographically - not half-tone - which gives them a beautiful vintage texture. The description on the back of the card states: "PLASTERERS' DEPARTMENT. In this department are made bricks, pillars, models for perspective backgrounds, etc. In the background is a model of the 'Big Ben' Tower, used as part of a background for the film, 'Friday the Thirteenth.' Another reason for the making of this particular model is that the 'Big Ben' Tower is at present covered with scaffolding, and is likely to remain in this condition for some years, so any film of a period before the scaffolding was erected would clearly be wrong if a photograph of the real Houses of Parliament were taken." "Facilities for the preparation of this series granted by Gaumont-British Picture Corporation Ltd."
